Art on the Farm 2011 :: Session 3 :: Dublin

We were back in Dublin last week with the third session of students. We went back to the Irish Museum of Modern Art and met with resident artist Mary Ruth Walsh:

After walking through the museum, we spent some time outdoors, discussing the students' Dublin photography assignment:

After IMMA, I had a chance to break from the group and went on a search for community gardens and farmers markets. First I found the Dublin Food Co-op, which had a small grocery store area and larger open room for "meetings, markets, exhibitions, classes, workshops, art exhibitions, performances, social events and, of course, food events." There wasn't a lot going on when I went by, but I took a few photos of the space and some of the food:

On my walk, I happened upon the Bridgefoot Street Community Garden, which included chickens, veggies and some incredible scarecrows, all bordering a recreation area:

Art on the Farm 2011 :: Session 2 :: Dublin

A few highlights from our trip to Dublin with the second session of students......

We met with IMMA resident artist Mark Hamilton in his studio and in the Process Room to see his project 'Snare Drum at Blue Monday:'

We went to the Royal Hibernian Academy and saw the 181st RHA Annual Exhibition:

And we checked out the Gallery of Photography's current exhibition The Long View, which features work by Irish artists David Farrell, Anthony Haughey, Richard Mosse, Jackie Nickerson, Paul Seawright and Donovan Wylie.

Art on the Farm 2011 :: Session 1 :: Dublin

There are two excursions during each Art on the Farm session. Each group goes to Dublin for an overnight trip during their first week of camp, then we'll go to a different destination during the second week, depending on the session: Galway & the Aran Islands, The Ring of Kerry, Cork & Cape Clear Island. Here are a few photos from our trip to Dublin last week....

We went on a walking tour, led by Lorcan Collins, co-author of The Easter Rising: A Guide to Dublin in 1916. This is in St. Stephen's Green, at the top of Grafton Street.

Our fearless leaders Rosie (left) and Frank (right). Zsofia (middle) is also a Visiting Artist this summer.

We went to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and saw work by Barry Cooke, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. And we met with resident artist John Beattie in his studio:

Then we walked across town to the Ormund Studios: a visual arts initiative...founded by a group of 2009 graduates as a self-managed, centrally situated, affordable working space for emerging visual artists. The space comprises of artists studios and an project space which are spread over two floors of a georgian building.

We saw video work by Jackie Gray and Alan James Burns.
