Produce: Closing Reception

The closing reception for "produce: photographs by Christin Boggs at the Great Falls Library" is a week from today: Thursday, August 26, 7-9 PM. Come on out to see what I've been up to in grad school. Bring a dish that features a local food product, potluck style. A few local farmers will be contributing food as well: Hollin Farms and Potomac Vegetable Farms. I hope to see you there!

Rochester Contemporary: 6x6x2010

produce: now on display at Great Falls Library

produce is an art exhibition featuring photographs by Christin Boggs, from the series Cheap Fix, 2009 and Slow & Steady, 2010. A native of Northern Virginia, Boggs has been studying photography since her sophomore year at Langley High School. She received her BFA in photography from George Mason University in 2007, and is completing her MFA in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her work is centered on the politics of food in the 21st century. Cheap Fix engages in a critique of processed foods, while Slow & Steady documents local, sustainable food production in Rochester, New York.

Slideluck Potshow DC IV

Slideluck Potshow just launched slideluckpotshow.com v2.0, which looks amazing! Now slide shows will be available for online viewing, long after an event is over. I Made a Table!

It's true. This past quarter at RIT, I took a woodworking class, in which I built the above table out of one piece of maple wood, purchased at Pittsford Lumber. The top of the table is a true bookmatch, meaning that it is one piece of wood, cut in half, opened up, and joined together, creating a mirroring affect. After much hand sanding, I applied two coats of Tried & True, an all natural wood finish, made from linseed oil and beeswax. I can't take all the credit, though. George Dubinsky, the course instructor, designed the table and provided much help, as did his assistant, Trevor Ritchie.

Table Dimensions: 16.5"w x 23"h
